This expedition aims to pay homage to the amphibious assault on occupied Normandy by allied forces in World War 2, known as the D-Day landings; code named Operation OVERLORD.
This is the second of three events which started in June 2023 to commemorate the 79th and 80th anniversaries of the airborne assault at Pegasus Bridge and D-Day landings at SWORD beach.
The swim will depart Portsmouth using a crewed safety boat as a guide. Swimming in relay for 80 nautical miles the team will arrive in Normandy at SWORD beach within 5 days.
The aim is raise donations and awareness for several charities who support and care for service personnel and veterans.
