On Wednesday 16th April, Rugby for Heroes held its second Beyond the Uniform business and veterans networking event, hosted by our main sponsor Howard Tenens Logistics, at their headquarters in Swindon.
The event brought together participants from our current Transition Through Rugby course with representatives from businesses across sectors such as energy, construction, logistics, defence, recruitment, and community services. Companies in attendance included Howard Tenens, Adjacency Recruitment Group, Amplo Talent, Cotswold Mortgage Advice Centre, Voluntary Action Swindon, Utility Warehouse, Mears Construction LLC, MBDA, and Veterans Welfare Group. These organisations were invited based on their relevance to the skills, qualifications, and pathways most aligned with those leaving military service.
The day focused on clear, practical conversations around recruitment processes, transferable skills, and what employment after service may involve. Veterans shared their experiences and questions, while businesses outlined potential routes into their industries and the kinds of roles available.
“It’s been a really interesting day. What’s stood out is the level of skill the course attendees bring from their military background, skills that are clearly transferable into our business and many others. Today, we’ve had valuable conversations about how those skills translate. The leadership experience, managing teams from 5 to 500 is something we can relate to directly at Howard Tenens.”
Richard Parry, Divisional manager, Howard Tenens, Swindon.
“It is fantastic that these employers recognise the exceptional hires veterans represent. Their skill-sets are highly transferable, their mindsets are exceptional and their desire to succeed is unwavering. These events allow both sides to understand what each party represents better, and it is clear from the feedback how impressed the companies are with what they are seeing. A win win for all. ”
