Compiegne Folkclowns XV 45 – Rugby for Heroes XV 45

On a glorious September day, two Vets teams came together packed full of talent. The field was graced by a Rugby World Cup Winner, multiple Six Nations Grand Slam Winners, international caps a plenty, decorated military veterans, and what can only be described as A LOT of enthusiastic Frenchmen! The game didn’t disappoint…

Right from the kick off, the game exhibited the skill and commitment worthy of those it commemorated. Rugby for Heroes started off strongly sprinting into a three-try lead, but they couldn’t quite get clear of the Folkclowns. The match soon turned from a thrilling open exhibition match into a keenly fought one by two equal teams. The lead preceded to exchange hands throughout the game with the likes of Mike Tindall, Serge Betsen and Damien Traille showing their quality throughout.

The final ten minutes saw the lead switch between Rugby for Heroes and Folklowns three times with the French side entering the last minute leading by a try. Rugby for Heroes responded with a number of telling carries from their forwards, before unleashing their potent backline to grab the draw! A fitting result in a match which lived up to the hype, and entertained a huge crowd of rugby fans from the town of Compiegne and beyond.
