The first half was a real struggle for the Rugby for Heroes team with league laws being played. Made up of ex pros and military rugby union players, they were always going to struggle against the league boys at their own game. The half time score of 28-0 not really reflecting the effort and commitment shown by the players. With the combined Hull side really running hard and direct, creating space to score at will – not to mention some bone crunching tackles – the game was a real battle.
The second half held some hope for us as we played to union laws with the full complement of 15 players. Lineouts and driving mauls played to our strengths bringing the final score to 28-26… Much more respectable but sadly still a loss. The driving rain didn’t really help the handling and a last kick of the game which would have drawn the match sadly went wide of the posts, sealing the result.
