We recently made a grant of £20k to The On Course Foundation (OCF) following up on grants made in 2013 and 2014 – here’s what they have to say about our support
Rugby for Heroes has supported OCF since 2013 through The Mike Tindall Charity Golf Classic. The money raised supported OCF’s 2013 programme of activities and was used to pay for two one-day familiarisation events and two three-day golf skills and employment training events. As a result, a total of 30 newly injured Service Personnel were introduced to golf, with 45 injured members receiving intense tuition and employment training. From these events, OCF hope that individuals will complete work experience placements and that at least one individual will find a career as a result.
On Course Foundation is the only Services golf charity. It provides long-term benefits for wounded, injured and sick Service Personnel and veterans using the medium of golf.
OCF provides monthly, nationwide familiarisation, skills and employment training events for its members. The Foundation then offers practical training through work experience placements for those who wish to pursue a career in the golf industry. The progressively structured OCF programme builds personal esteem and self-confidence, and, on completion (with OCF’s on-going support), members have the skills, knowledge and confidence to find long-term, meaningful employment.
“As a proud and devoted soldier, the British Army was my life. I was completely lost and devastated when I realised that my military career had to come to an end. Through the On Course Foundation, I have found a new lease of life with a clear sense of direction. With their help and understanding, I have embarked on a very different but equally rewarding career.”
