Press Release / 14th February 2019
The Battle of the Codes: Union v League hybrid match will be played at Gloucester Rugby on Saturday 30th March, kicking off at 2pm. The event is being held in aid of Rugby for Heroes and Hull4Heroes, two charities passionate about supporting service personnel as they make the challenging transition from military to civilian life.
The rugby union side will be captained by England Rugby World Cup winner and Gloucester Rugby legend Mike Tindall, whilst the rugby league side will be led by ex-Great Britain star Keith Senior. Both teams will be full of ex-professional players from both codes who have played at the highest level for their club and country.
The match marks the return fixture following the success of last June’s hybrid match at KCOM Craven Park, Hull, which saw the combined Hull KR and Hull FC superteam defeat the union side 28-26.
“I’m really looking forward to this game. Like previous ones it will bring attention to the plight of veterans trying to progress in the community after serving their country, bring in much needed funds for Rugby for Heroes transition courses and provide an afternoon of entertaining rugby for fans featuring many legends of the game – what’s not to like? Get yourself down to Kingsholm to watch or come along to the dinner the night before to meet the legends in person.”
– Nick Knowles, TV Presenter and Rugby for Heroes Ambassador
A dinner to be held at Cheltenham’s Queens Hotel on Friday 29th March will precede the match and offer supporters the chance to mix with the players in the build up to Saturday’s battle on the pitch.
Matchday tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £5 for children.
