Following on from the success of our World Rugby Memorial Bike Ride in September 2017, the Armistice 100 Bike Ride & Match aims to honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War, and commemorates 100 years since the signing of the Armistice.
The Armistice 100 Bike Ride & Match will be made up of two teams – the “Elite” group and the “Player” group
“Elite” Team / Event Summary (29th-31st August)
The elite team made up of 6 riders who will depart from Twickenham Stadium on the morning of 29th August from where they will begin their cycle to Compiegne, the site of the First World War Armistice. On the final day of the ride, the elite group will be joined by the player group and members of the French Legends XV to embark on a ‘Mass Ride’ from Arras to Compiegne via Thiepval.
“Player” Team / Event Summary (30th-31st August)
The player team will depart by vehicles to Vimy Ridge via Miessines Ridge where they will be taken on War Walks by World Rugby Museum curator Phil McGowan. On the second day, they will have the option of joining the elite team and participating in the ‘Mass Ride’ from Arras to Compiegne via Thiepval, coaching local minis/juniors at Compiegne RC, or conducting further War Walks of the Somme Battlefield.
The evening of the Friday 31st August will see the arrival of all players and riders at the site of the First World War Armistice Site in Compiegne.
Saturday 1st September will see all parties join for a ceremony at the Armistice site followed by a game vs Compiegne RC and social function in the afternoon and evening.
